Chemical Experience - Golden Rain

This time we will present to your attention another exciting experience in obtaining golden rain in a flask. This experiment is not hazardous to health, so you can believe it yourself, surprising a friend, girlfriend or loved one, especially since the result will be unimaginable and will be remembered for a long time.

We offer you to familiarize yourself with the experience in the video

For this experiment we will need:
- potassium iodide;
- lead nitrate;
- two flasks;
- hot water;
- acetic acid.

First, take two flasks and weighed 1 gram of reagent, that is, lead nitrate, and 1 gram of potassium iodide into the second. The only thing to watch out for is lead salts, which are toxic.

After we weighed one gram of each of the reagents into the flask, we pour about 175 ml of very hot water into each flask. Water should be really hot, almost boiling water, because otherwise the experiment may not work.

Potassium iodide dissolves quite well, and a solution of lead nitrate begins to cloud due to a process called hydrolysis.

To prevent hydrolysis, you need to add a little acetic acid to the mixture.

After everyone has dissolved, take a larger flask and pour our solutions there. If the solutions were cold, a yellow precipitate of lead iodide would form, but since the solution is hot, the resulting lead iodide can dissolve in hot water.

Over time, the solution cools and particles of lead iodide begin to crystallize in it. The slower the cooling, the larger and more beautiful the flakes of lead iodide will be. This experience looks very impressive in direct sunlight.
