Making a spring crossbow

We continue the theme of weapons homemade. This article provides an overview of a video on the manufacture of a compact, but quite powerful spring crossbow. We note immediately that we do not welcome the manufacture and further use of such home-made products for illegal purposes. All materials are for informational purposes only.

We recommend starting with watching the author’s video

We will need:
- long wooden plank;
- furniture corners;
- wooden plank 1.5 cm thick and 4.5 cm wide;
- 2 slats 14 cm long;
- metal tube;
- rollers;
- springs;

At one end of a long wooden plank, which will serve as the basis for the future crossbow, we attach two furniture corners.

Next, we take a short wooden plank with a thickness of 1.5 and a width of 4.5 cm, make holes along the edges and fix it on the base at a mark of 10 cm from the edge.

The next step is to take two 14-centimeter planks and make holes, fixing steel wires for the springs. These straps will become the shoulders of the crossbow.

We also make holes at the edges of the plates to fix the shoulders of the crossbow.

To reduce friction in moving parts of the structure, the author of the idea advises cutting a small sleeve from a metal tube along the diameter of the bolts.

The cut sleeve must be threaded into the extreme holes of the 14-centimeter planks.

At the other ends of the same strips, we make another hole for the rollers.

We install and fix the rollers in the holes made, which can be purchased at the car market and which we have repeatedly used in similar home-made products.

Now you need to fix the shoulders on the basis of a crossbow.

Next, we take short but maximally powerful springs and fix them at one end to the wires on the shoulders, and the second to the steel corners. The author claims that such springs can also be purchased in the automotive market.

Next, we take another segment of the bar and fix two rollers on the edges.

We install this design on the basis of a crossbow.

We take another long bar and fasten between the shoulders on the base. This bar will be the guide.

If desired, you can add two more corners for emphasis.

You can start the trigger. To do this, put on a bowstring and pull to the stop, making a mark on the end point.

On the planks we make a cutout according to the mark.

How you can make a trigger, you can learn from past articles on the manufacture of weapons.

Next, cut out two thin strips of organic glass or plywood and fix them on the upper bar, which was attached as a guide.

It remains to attach a handle to the crossbow, a holder for steles, which can be made from a piece of a steel plate.

Optionally, you can mount an optical sight on a crossbow.

Finally, we pull the bowstring and we can safely organize crossbow shooting competitions.

In the end, we note that despite the compact size of the crossbow, it shoots quite powerfully, hitting the target from a long distance.

The optical sight in the photo is 4n20. It provides confident shooting at ranges up to one hundred meters ... Otherwise, we are used to thinking that optics are needed only to shoot FAR. I also put optics, or collimators, or laser designators on my crossbows. Because ..... it's a lot easier than making a regular open type sight. After all, the fly must be placed so that an arrow can pass under it! Accordingly, it is necessary to make some very rigid (so as not to stray) complex construction. Again, the aiming bar must be done with wide adjustments - otherwise you won’t shoot ... It's easier to stick a one-component sight than to fence this garden .....
A fairly complex composition that requires an understanding of what should be done. The author described the course of work in sufficient detail, but I certainly will not succeed in such a crossbow. Apparently, this is a man’s business. Particularly surprised by the optical sight.
Optical sight?! But what is the combat range of such a homemade crossbow? Judging by the last detail, the weapon will come out powerful. And well, if it is used for firing on sparrows, although the birdies are also a pity.
The crossbow lacks an important “spare part” - a device to facilitate the extension of springs. By the way, what is the aiming range of this homemade weapon?
