No matter how carefully you handle the jack, there is always a risk that the car will break and fall. The jack itself can fail, but more often it just jumps off. At the same time, God forbid that a person was lying under the machine, in the minimum version it threatens with disability. But even if you do not carry out work under the machine, the fall of the machine onto the hub threatens with its destruction.
In this article I will show you how you can make special racks that will protect you when lifting the car. The design discussed below is not collapsible, but it has the ability to adjust for height.
Materials and tools for homemade:
- a piece of steel pipe (the walls should be thicker);
- square pipes (or corners);
- welding;
- grinder;
- drill with drills;
- bolt with nut (works as a retainer);
- a piece of chain (optional);
- hammers, wrenches and more.
Rack manufacturing process:
Step one. We prepare blanks for the base
As conceived by the author, the stand should rest on the cross. This crosspiece is made of three pieces of a square pipe. That is, one piece will be solid, and the other two will form the second line of the cross. We carefully clean the metal with a grinder for good welding.
Step Two We prepare the supporting part of the rack
The main vertical load of the rack will fall on the pipe, so it must be thick-walled and strong. Cut the pipe to the desired length and weld to the crosshair.
Step Three We prepare and weld amplifiers
Just weld the pipe to the crosspiece will not work, as it will immediately vomit under load. To strengthen the structure, you will need steel corners. They need to be cut at an angle so that they are adjacent to the pipe and the crosspiece. Well, then we weld all four corners as in the photo.
Step Four Supports and extendable part
Just like that with a piece of pipe, you won’t hit the bottom of the car, as it will either jump off or punch a hole in the bottom. And in order to tackle the threshold beyond the threshold, you will need to make a special support. It can be made of two pieces of a corner or channel.See the photo for more details.
If necessary, you can make supports for the side member and other body parts, depending on your model auto.
Since the car in life we have to raise to different heights, and the road may not always be smooth, the rack must have a height adjustment function. All this is done quite simply. We take a pipe of a smaller diameter than our main pipe, one pipe should go into another (like a telescopic fishing rod approximately). On both pipes we mark the places for the holes and drill.
By the way, as for me, it will be enough to drill holes only in the inner pipe.
Step Five Clamps. Final stage
To fix one pipe into another, the author used screws. In order not to lose them, holes are drilled in the screws and rings are inserted, then with the help of these rings the chain is attached to the screws, well, and the chain is attached to the case. But as for me, it’s much simpler and more reliable to simply weld the chain to the bolt head.
Just in case, when working, the bolt can be fixed with a nut, but this is not necessary. Choose the bolt as long as possible, so it will have less chance of spontaneously popping out.
