Steampunk lighter 1/2

Good day, today I want to introduce my new lighter "1/2" (who cares why the "1/2" is very simple and commonplace, all of their crafts I improvise on the go and at the end of the work I just didn’t decide what it looked like))) and since there is a 1/2 inscription on the case, I decided to call it 1/2 as well) And so the manufacturing process was sorted out with the name now.

For the case, I took a part from the water tap, so to speak one second)

And spare part from another tap (mixer)

The result is such an unusual case

Then, from the spare parts of the second mixer, I mounted the wick with the lid

Then soldered in one piece

Then he turned a tube under the silicon from a bolt

Then he took a plumbing cap and cut off the edges from it, and a boring cover for the bottom of the lighter turned out. To decorate the lid, I took the gear from the Soviet alarm clock and a little copper wire. Marked out the future design, prepared the necessary parts and soldered together

He boiled all the details in citric acid to wash off the soldering oxides, cleaned and placed in a tank with ammonia to apply a patina

After slightly polished so as not to erase the patina and all the lighter is ready Thank you all for your attention to my homemade Come visit, there are many interesting homemade products in front)

completely different material is used in lighters

As a child, after reading books, he asked his grandfather how they lit from flints. It turned out they didn’t use tinder - they beat him with a chair on a flint, substituting a piece of dry linen rag ... Broke off the tip from an old rusty sickle ... Found flint (fortunately, we have all the blue fields from them)))) ... But , I didn’t find linen rags!)))) The sparks were strong, but I didn’t set fire to something!)))))
And the flint material for modern lighters copes with this better for the simple reason - it spontaneously ignites in the air in a crushed state .....
In our youth, we set up fireworks by stuffing it into a cigarette, and when it after a few puffs, it becomes red, clicking on it with a “click” ... Colorful fireworks turn out ...))))
In childhood, we always talked about silicon. And it seems flint was written on the packaging. Having looked at the Old Internet, I realized that silicon is part of the flint, but in the lighters a completely different material is used. Namely, an alloy of iron, cerium and lanthanum.
turned a tube under silicon
Maybe still flint?
