Homemade manufacturing process:
Step one. Formwork
First of all, we will produce the formwork, so that we can cast a rectangular slab. Acrylic is suitable as the walls, the resin does not stick to it. Acrylic is easily cut using a stationery knife and a ruler.
To obtain the desired gap between the sheets, the author used whetstones of suitable thickness. We glue the whole structure with silicone sealant. It is important that there is not even the slightest gap left, otherwise all the resin will flow out. For long-term use, the sticks can be pasted with tape.
Step Two Pour resin
When the sealant has dried, the resin can be poured into the mold; it is better to choose a special epoxy resin for pouring large volumes.
We mix the resin with the hardener, pour it into the mold and then the author places the mold in a bucket of ice water, for reliability, the author threw ice into the water. This is done so that the resin does not boil due to the reaction with the hardener. But this option is relevant only if the selected resin is not suitable for pouring large volumes.
Next, we need to monitor when the resin begins to set, it should become thick. This is the very moment when the resin needs to be painted.For coloring, you will need a medical syringe, a piece of tubule and a needle. We draw dye into the syringe, it can be ink for an inkjet printer or universal dye from a hardware store for ink. We insert the needle into the resin and pump the paint, then we pull the needle out at an angle to get the desired pattern. In this way, step by step we form the pattern we need. Paints can be used in a variety of colors, if desired, you can draw pictures. After that, again immerse the resin in water and wait for complete hardening.
Step Three Workpiece processing
When the resin hardens, carefully disassemble the form and eliminate the defects pouring. Where was the top, now it will be the bottom of the homemade product. Carefully cut the excess with a tape cutting machine and grind the workpiece along the contour. Here we need sandpaper.
Step Four Base fabrication and installation
We’ll make a base for homemade work, for this we need a block, cut it lengthwise and cut a gap inside the base according to the thickness of the cast resin slab. We glue the base with superglue, and then with a brush we coat it with epoxy. When everything is ready, we glue our cast plate to the base and wait until everything is dry.
Step Five Completion
As a completion, we drill a hole in the base and install a socket for connecting the power supply. The power source is an LED strip, install it inside the case and solder the wires. You can also close the gap with a piece of thin aluminum profile pipe or other material of your choice.
Now the homemade product is ready, plug in the power supply and enjoy. The nightlight looks interesting, a peculiar atmosphere is created in the house.
