Potbelly stove from a thick-walled pipe with a diameter of 60 cm

Hello everyone, soon the warm days will end and the cold will begin, it is important to take care of a good stove and firewood in advance. Today we will look at how to make a powerful and large potbelly stove that can be heated garageworkshop or even a residential building. Homemade It is made of a thick-walled pipe with a diameter of about 60 cm, and the wall thickness is about 1 cm. Such a metal can withstand high temperatures, and the furnace will last a long time. The bottom and top are made of thick sheet steel, the author sealed all the doors well. If you are interested in the project, I propose to study it in more detail!

Materials and tools used by the author:

Material List:
- thick-walled pipe with a diameter of about 60 cm;
- thick sheet steel;
- parts for doors (bolts, nuts, hooks, hinges);
- asbestos rectangular cord (or other insulator);
- steel plates;
- square and round shaped pipes;
- furnace grate;
- heat resistant brick.

Tool List:
- welding machine;
- grinder;
- plasma cutter (preferably);
- tape measure, marker;
- tape cutting machine or miter saw;
- a lathe (optional).

Furnace manufacturing process:

Step one. Level the pipe
The author's pipe turned out to be bent, and the task was to align it. To solve the problem, a jack and a piece of a strong board were needed. We rest against the jack and align the pipe, everything is quick and easy.

Step Two Bottom
We make the bottom for the furnace, for this you need a sheet of thick steel, if it is stainless steel, you can use thinner metal. The author drew a circle with an impromptu compass and set about cutting. Of course, you can cope with the help of a grinder, but it is better to use a plasma cutter. The cut sheet is well welded to the base.

The author cut the remaining sheet with a circle cut into pieces, as a result, details were obtained for the manufacture of sleeves for doors.

Step Three Sleeves and doors
The author cut out the details for the doors from that part of the sheet from which he cut out a circle for the base. We customize the parts and weld the sleeve for the furnace door and for the blower. At the same time, we outline a place and cut a hole under the chimney. Weld the sleeves well so that there are no gaps.

Next, we weld the doors from the plates and sheet metal. Inside each door there is a frame in which the seal is placed. Please note that the use of asbestos can be dangerous, since asbestos emits toxic gas when heated. However, the stove can be warmed up well for starters in the open air so that all harmful gases are released.

The top cover, according to the author’s idea, is removable, we make a side for it and there is also a groove in which the seal is placed. We hang the doors through the corner on powerful hinges that will not quickly become loose.

Step Four Hooks, blew, legs
We make reliable hooks with handles that will not heat up. You can use a hook from an unusable adjustable wrench.
As a blower, the author welded a piece of a square pipe of large diameter to the lower door and hung a small door on the hinges. To fix the desired position of the door, the author welded a nut to the door, in which the pain is wrapped and rests in focus.
The legs are welded to the base, in our case, these are pieces of a round pipe.

Step Five Brick
Inside, the author overlaid the stove with refractory bricks, thanks to the brick the walls will not be very hot, and the brick will also accumulate more heat. For bricks, special clamps were made, which are welded to the body.

That's all, the stove is ready, you can put a chimney and test. Of course, for aesthetic purposes, the case would be nice to paint with heat-resistant paint. The area of the furnace is large, so it should give a lot of heat, it is almost a closed fire. To increase the efficiency inside, you can divide the furnace with cameras. I hope you enjoyed the project and found useful thoughts for yourself. Good luck and creative inspiration, do not forget to share your ideas and homemade things with us!
