To make a sofa of natural wood - everyone can do it. Such furniture easy to assemble on self-tapping screws. And its main advantage is that you are not threatened by the constriction of the sofa. All pillows are removable and set in a couple of minutes.
With appropriate wood processing, the sofa can be installed on the terrace and even in the garden, where it will withstand the effects of fog, dew and even slight rainfall. In this case, removable pillows are an integral advantage of this design.
In order to make a wooden sofa with pillows you will need:
Materials:
- wooden boards 30-35 mm thick;
- dowels with a diameter of 8 mm;
- glue for woodwork;
- two narrow corners - an additional mount for the upper panel of the back;
- metal legs to your taste;
- sofa cushions with ties or fabric and foam for their manufacture;
- quick-drying furniture oil or furniture wax for wood processing.
Instruments:
- Miter saw;
- jigsaw or manual circular;
- grinder;
- screwdriver;
- electric drill;
- painting supplies, lint-free fabric;
- building tape, square;
- a pencil.
Step one: preparation of wood, marking, manufacturing of wooden parts
The author uses 35 mm thick planed boards. For the manufacture of furniture, choose solid wood, on the surface of which there are no dents.
Mark the parts according to the given dimensions. If you do not have a miter saw, use a square. Saw the workpieces and grind them carefully, paying particular attention to the edges.
Step Two: Assembling Sidewalls
The author uses the connection of parts of the sidewalls flush with glue and dowels. To do this, make holes for dowels in the attachment points using a drill. Transfer the marks to the next part and drill holes as shown in the photo.
Apply glue to dowels, holes and the edge plane, connect the parts, clamp with clamps and leave under the press until the glue completely dries.
Step Three: Making the base of the sofa
From the board, prepare two bars along the width of the seat, spreading it lengthwise into two equal parts. Dock the seat parts and secure them with bars on both sides as shown in the photo. In the center, screw the jumper for self-tapping screws.
Fasten the facade along the seat. For reliable fastening, the author additionally connected it with a pair of bars on the back side.
Step Four: Build the Sofa
Pre-connect the side parts of the sofa and the seat with long screws through the bars.
From the board, prepare two corners with a right angle of 90 degrees. Place them between the sidewall and the seat and mark as shown in the photo. Saw off the excess.
Prepare also the details of the back. The bottom part touches the seat, so cut it at a slight angle so that it fits flush. Fix the details of the back, screw on top of the top of the back. The author further secured it to the corners.
Step Five: Installing the Feet
The author used ready-made metal legs, which can be purchased at any online store of furniture fittings. They have a fairly wide base, so he additionally screwed the boards to the back of the seat in places where the legs will be attached.
Screw the legs with small screws.
Step Six: Soft Pillows
The sofa cushions in this project are removable and fastened through special holes in the ties. To do this, lay down the pillows and outline the points, where the ties are located. Drill holes with a drill. Pull the ties through the holes and make sure that the pillows are resting as they should.
If you do not have suitable pillows, stitching them will not be difficult. True, for this you need a sewing machine.
Choose a dense, durable fabric that is easy to clean. Whenever possible, use furniture foam at least 50 mm thick. It will serve you many times longer than usual.
Seventh step: finishing the sofa
Walk the grinder along the plane of the sofa using fine emery paper with a grain of at least 220. Remove dust from the surface of the wood. In order for the product to serve you as long as possible, as well as for wet cleaning, the tree must be treated with oil.
Use solvent-based quick-drying oil. It penetrates deeper into the wood fibers, filling the pores and preserving it. Apply oil to the wood surface, be sure to remove excess, wait until it dries completely.
After that, you can go through the sandpaper again, but this time manually. Grinding after applying oil stains and impregnation has a special unique effect, due to which you will get a perfectly smooth and pleasant to the touch surface.
The result can be fixed with quick-drying furniture wax. It has a liquid consistency, and working with it is a pleasure.
The author also processed the metal legs with a patina. It protects the metal from oxidation and gives it a decorative look.
It remains only to fix the pillows with the ties - and the sofa is ready!
