Furniture shelves are sometimes of such interesting shape and design that it is not immediately clear how they are made.
In this article, Alexey, the author of the YouTube channel Aleksey Leontev Workshop, will tell you how he made a hanging shelf for flowers from solid ash. He will also share with you several interesting carpentry tricks and technologies.

Manufacturing process.
First of all, the master aligns the two base surfaces of the board on the jointer.
Then the other two sides of the board are processed on a thicknesser.
The board is prepared, and the master dissolves it on four thin strips about 8 mm thick.
In order to bend the blanks, the author soaks them in hot water.
After that, it fixes them with clamps in such a simple way, and leaves to dry for two days.
The boards dried up and took an arched shape, now you can remove the clamps. Nevertheless, it was worth using two planks to fix the workpieces, traces of clamps remained on the two workpieces. The author had to wet these places again, and wait for the restoration of the wood structure.
Now he needs to make the upper part of the shelf, for which it will be suspended. To do this, two slots are made in the bar along the thickness of the slats at an angle of 30 degrees in several passes.
The edges of the strips are glued into the grooves.
After the glue dries, Alex cuts off the edges of the mount on the band saw.
The ends are polished on an orbital machine.
He will also make the shelf itself from ash. It dissolves the bar with a circular saw on the boards, and glues the shield from them.
The surfaces of the shield are processed on a thicknesser, and the two edges of the shield are cut off at an angle of 45 degrees. The other two edges are cut with a miter saw.
Now the board sticks to the suspension.
For high-quality gluing, Alex prepared two of these fixtures, which allow you to press the clamps board at an angle.
The author decided to strengthen the shelf mounting points. Drills and countersinks holes, then screw in screws, and grind with sandpaper. Hats of self-tapping screws can be hidden by coating them with a mixture of fine wood dust and PVA glue.
A screw with a loop is screwed into the upper part of the suspension.

Instead of the usual rope, the author decided to use long strips of leather, it looks harmonious with wood.
