Hello dear the inhabitants of our site and site visitors!
In this article I want to tell you how to repair a crack on the bumper auto. Many car owners have such unpleasant moments when their steel horse gets damaged. And it doesn’t matter for what reason and whose fault it is - the main thing is that now the car will have to be repaired or repaired on its own. And it’s good if the damage is insignificant, as the author of the YouTube channel 1000 DIY's and Advice, which as a result of some accident, a rather large crack appeared on the bumper. In this article, we will examine in detail how to independently and without particularly large expenses for restoration and repair, with the help of, at hand, improvised materials and tools, to restore this part of a car with high quality.
For work, the author uses:
Sharpened knife
Pliers, pliers,
Metal wire
Soldering iron
Construction hair dryer.
Of the necessary components, the author uses only the fender liner from another car, bought for disassembly.
So, as we see in the photographs, the damaged surface is quite large. The author once repaired the bumper using a mesh, which now needs to be removed from the surface of the part being repaired. Heated with a soldering iron, pulls out pieces of a grid with pliers. The work is quite painstaking. After the entire grid has been removed, the author cleans the surface.
The next step taken by the author is to tighten the walls of the crack with wire, for more convenient and high-quality soldering.
After the crack is quite tightly pulled together by the edges, it proceeds directly to soldering. The tip of the soldering iron is spot welding, completely burning through the part. Then the edges are smoothed and aligned. All actions are done starting from the edge of the bumper. When soldering is done, the fastening edges of the wire are pulled out. These places are also heat treated.
There are a lot of ways to restore bumpers: someone sews cracks with rivets, someone uses fiberglass, epoxy and so on. The author is more comfortable with the method of restoration using flat electrodes, but since the price is quite high, and according to him there may be problems with delivery, he settled on a rather budget option. Having bought a fender liner from a car at an autodismantling, the author cuts it into strips, thereby obtaining improvised flat electrodes.
Cleans the tire liner from the wheel arch liner and the tire itself. To do this, he does not use sandpaper or any solvents. All actions are carried out using a regular sharp knife. Then, with a construction hairdryer, the bumper is carefully warmed up. Because its thickness is greater than the thickness of the tire, it needs to be heated longer. Then he puts the tire to the bumper and heats it already. With little effort on the tire, the author glues it to the bumper. Hot air is supplied from below to the tire and a wave of molten plastic is produced, which tightly connects the parts together. Thus, the author seals the entire crack on the bumper.
Having finished the soldering from the inside, it cleans the part from the outside and also glues it with a hairdryer and a cut-off strip from the wing liner.
This is what a sealed bumper looks like.
The author removes all unnecessary grinder, leaving only the necessary minimum. angle grinder speed is best set to a minimum, because from high revs, the plastic warms up and begins to melt.
After finishing stripping, the putty layer that will need to be put on the bumper will be very small.
In this way, with the necessary minimum tools and materials, the author do it yourself made a repair of the bumper. The work is quite easy, not requiring any professional skills. In the event of such a nuisance, you no longer have to pay for repairs in the service, you can repair it yourself.
Good luck on the road!
