How to make hunting matches

Every hunter or fisherman, going to fishing, always thinks about the presence of such a necessary thing as matches. But there are situations in which an ordinary match or lighter brings its master at the most critical moment. This is mainly due to excess moisture, ordinary matches are soaked, and the lighter does not give a spark. There are many ways to protect yourself from such oddities and today we will talk about the most effective and simplest methods.

The first such method that I would like to describe is perhaps the most effective and widespread among hunters and fishers.
For such a peculiar modification of matches, we will need such ingredients as ammonium nitrate, silver (powder paint), nitro varnish and, of course, the matches themselves.

The process of making hunting matches

Ammonium nitrate should be mixed with silver in a ratio of one to one, then add nitro-lacquer and mix until you get a homogeneous mass similar to dough. Next, the resulting consistency should be rolled out in a thin layer and cut into narrow strips, the width of which should be no more than one, well, or two centimeters.

The next step will be winding this strip on a match. But you need to do this so that it half covers the match head itself, as well as half the shaft. Another nuance that should be taken into account is that you need to wind the resulting "dough" on a spiral basis. After we have done this procedure with all the matches, we should postpone them for some time to dry.

When our matches have dried up, we proceed to the next stage, namely, their coating - nitro-varnish.

To do this, you can use an ordinary brush for painting. Remember, it is not necessary to apply varnish to the sulfur head of a match, also in no case should you dip it into the nitro varnish as a whole, since subsequently there may be some difficulties with ignition. After our varnish is completely dry, the matches are ready for use. With the help of such modernized matches, you can make a fire in the most severe conditions, since they can burn even in water, not to mention the wind, which will not be able to extinguish their flame.

Another point that can also be noted

To avoid getting wet the sulfuric head of our matches, you can dip it in molten candle wax. Before using such a match, remove the protective layer of wax from its head, and boldly strike on the boxes, you will be provided with warm and hot food in any weather.
