DIY Rail Anvil

Good day, dear readers! Making an anvil do it yourself from unnecessary old things: rusty rails and scrap.

Fixtures for work:
• welding
• gas cutting
• file for metal (boron machine)
• grinder with discs for stripping and cutting

Necessary materials:
• stump
• wood screws
• a small piece of rail (about thirty centimeters)

You should be well aware of how to handle these tools, because only you are responsible for safety.

Stage 1: Anvil Production

So, we make a blank of our anvil from unnecessary rails, as shown in the photo. Using a gas cutter, we drill roundings between the base of the anvil and the lower part. Cut it from the front and make the tip of the workpiece sharp.

Stage 2: Cleansing

Using a grinder, we clean the anvil with a grinder or file so that there are no traces of cutting.

Stage 3: Grinding

We take disks with grit from 40 to 120 units and grind our workpiece so that it becomes smooth.

Stage 4: Install the Anvil

Before installing our homemade make holes for the screws on the back too. Now we attach the screws to the hemp, which was prepared in advance. There is a feature in our installation, we install a piece of rail vertically, this dampens the noise when a hammer hits an anvil. On another piece of hemp we weld a metal “heel”, and also make holes for the anvil.

Our installation is done!
