This article describes the process of creating a homemade car winch with reverse and a supply voltage of 12 volts. The project is quite budgetary, and can be useful for off-road drivers, hunters, fishermen, in general, all those who like to drive on the road. According to the author, the lifting capacity of the winch was somewhere in the 500 - 1000 kilograms.

The following components will be required to assemble the winch:
- Starter from the VAZ-21015;
- Gearbox with gear ratio 1x20;
(in the presented project, a reducer from an old Soviet drill was used)
- Shaft with gear, gear ratio 1x5;
- A metal sheet with a thickness of 2-3mm, a size of approximately 400x600mm;
- Hairpin with thread 8-10;
- The control panel with 2 buttons;
- Cable 6 - 10 mm2, preferably 4-core, select the length yourself;
- The drum for the cable and the cable itself;
- Also welding works are used in the project;

To begin with, we disassemble the starter, we only need an electric motor from it:

Next, a protective casing is made of a metal sheet or a suitable pipe:

From the three components we collect the drum for the cable.
The bolt serves to fix the end of the cable:

In using precisely this particular winch, the author points out one nuance in its operation: it must not be attached directly to the towing cable of the machine from which it is powered, it is necessary to use a current-conducting cable!

And it is also advisable not to turn off the engine auto when operating the winch so as not to put the battery in.

According to the author, the winch is tested, it works quite acceptable and with optimal speed.

If this engine runs continuously for several minutes, it will burn, even at idle, since the starter motor is not designed for long-term operation (it is not recommended to “turn” the starter not only because of the possibility of discharging the battery, but also because of the possibility to burn the starter )

and about the power cable: you need either 2 wires of 10 mm or 4 wires of 6 mm (we connect two wires in a pair). Cable length - the longer, the greater the voltage loss (with a cross-section of 10 mm long (my opinion) is not more than 5 m). To say more precisely, you need to know more precisely the current consumption.
What is in this winch no locking mechanism - this is one thing ... not to lift weights. The fact that is necessary INSULATION from MASS cars - it's different ... I'm interested Control buttons !! because the starter current is about 200 amperes !! Why not fork out for this purpose and get a normal engine for gearboxes (with reverse stator) .. ??

Such a winch will certainly come in handy for many motorists, and its budget is a definite plus. But all the declared characteristics have to be taken for granted. It would be nice if the author attached to the MK photos of the test results of this technical device.
If you cut out the side stops of the cable from sheet metal, you get the lack of sliding, or I did not quite understand the production technology.Well, it’s more or less clear along the cable guide, but getting such bearings is problematic, almost a real rarity.
It is unclear what caused the restrictions on the material of the cable. Does the cable pass to the ground?
And yet, I doubt that the gear of a conventional household drill can withstand a force of 1000 kg.
