Clothing protection for the front star of a bicycle

Clothing protection for the front star of a bicycle

Hello, dear visitors of this site. It’s already summer, and the season for of bicycles. In this article I will tell you and show you how to make protection for the front star of a bicycle. A bicycle without this protection is not very safe for the star, but simply dangerous. For example, when riding a bicycle at a considerable speed, your clothes, trousers or laces of sneakers can catch on a star, then you can easily and quickly fall from a bicycle transport. Then you can be very injured. And when you drive quietly, clothes still catch on there, and then it gets dirty on a chain and a star smeared with grease. After that, it is very difficult to wash off clothes from solid oil, and clothes can be torn. Here such cases can occur in the absence of this shield for a bicycle sprocket.

My shield has broken, that is, the shield holders, since it was made of plastic material, and I decided to repair it and give a second life.

To make protection for the front star of the bicycle from clothes, I needed:

1) File
2) A sharp clerical knife,
3) Glue gun and hot glue,
4) Drill or screwdriver and drill,
5) spanner
6) screwdriver,
7) Permanent black marker.

1) Old protection for the front star of the bike,
2) Rubber material (from a car mat),
3) Five long and five short cogs,
4) Five small and five large washers with the same hole diameter,
5) Ten identical nuts.

The manufacturing process of protection for the front star of a bicycle from clothing.

To begin with, we take a broken shield from the star and straighten uneven places from the broken holders with a file.

After everything is ready, we begin to make new holders for protection. I decided that the holders would be rubber, that is, from the old rubber mat from the car.

Using a sharp clerical knife, we cut out five identical rectangles from rubber (the number of these rectangles depends on your protection of the star).

Using a black marker, we put marks on the plastic shield, looking at the holes designed to attach the bicycle protection.

Using hot-melt adhesive, we glue prepared rectangular rubber parts to protect the marked areas.

Frozen adhesive to hold the protection will not be very reliable, so they must still be fixed with screws and nuts. To do this, make holes with a drill, as shown in the photo.

I didn’t have small washers for fixing, so I took a plate with holes from a metal constructor and cut small washers from them.

Slightly heat and melt the plastic, insert small nuts into the non-solidified plastic and wait for it to cool. When tightening the screw into the nut, the nut will no longer rotate, because it will abut against plastic.

We take a screw and a washer and twist, we fix rubber holders with them.

To prevent the nut from catching on clothes, fill it with hot glue.

Using a clerical knife, we cut off excess space from all five holders. Then we make holes on them with a drill.

With the help of long cogs and large washers, we fasten the star's protection to the star itself.

That's all, the protection for the front star of the bike from the clothes is designed. Now the clothes no longer cling to the star and chain, do not get stuck among them.
