Repair of switching power supplies has its own characteristics. One of them is that it is not always possible to identify all defective parts. And then, when turned on after repair, the PSU usually fails completely. Fuse rarely helps out.

There is a proven way to avoid trouble. I have assembled and have been using a simple installation for repairing pulse power supplies for a long time. It protects the elements of the block from burning out during the incomplete replacement of all defective parts and shows the operability of the block.

The installation consists of the following main elements.
Two mains plugs with unusable cords, an old cartridge with a 230 V 60 W bulb, E27 base, socket, parquet board, electrical tape and fasteners.

I mounted all this according to the given diagram. A general view is shown in the photographs.

The principle of operation of the installation is as follows.
The tested power supply is plugged into the outlet of the installation, after which the input plug of the installation is briefly connected to the 220 V.
If the bulb flashes briefly and then burns to the floor or does not light at all, you can try to turn on the unit directly.

If the lamp is lit completely - immediately disconnect from the network. This indicates that the unit is not working properly, not all defective elements have been replaced. The bulb in this case plays the role of a current limiter, not allowing the main elements of the power supply to fail - a diode bridge, a powerful high-voltage transistor, and others.

The second plug - a jumper is needed to check the operation of the installation, in this case it is plugged into the outlet of the installation. The lamp should light up completely. This is also necessary when the installation checks the bulbs with the E27 base. Currently, there are many types of lamps (for example, LED) that the tester does not ring. For certain reasons, a short-circuited plug is an integral part of the device and is wound with electrical tape.

Installation never let me down. The only thing to keep in mind is that a significant load should not be connected to the power supply at the time of such a check, otherwise the lamp will start to flash or burn almost completely.

It took me about an hour to assemble the installation, and over the course of a month, it helped me repair an automatic washing machine, monitor, and laptop charger.

To do this, I partially collected the upper (where the wheels are with numbers) part of the counter. 3 gears and a glass cover has not yet been put. Along the way, he made technological markers with a permanent felt-tip pen so that it would be more convenient for me to collect them in the future. With a tiny neodymium magnet from a CD drive, I began to make circular movements counterclockwise and clockwise around the center of the counter. This is where the multi-pole magnet is located. I also made sharp movements with a magnet on and against the center of the counter. Maintained in all cases the distance to the counter no closer than 30 mm. Where I brought the magnet, pointed an arrow. Excellent results were obtained. It was possible to make the counter spin not only in the forward, but also in the opposite direction. Moreover, with great speed. If such a magnet is mounted on a mini electric drill cartridge, it will be possible to rewind the meter reading by the desired amount in a few seconds. My work on this is not over. There is a complete assembly, assembly in the body, new tests.

I divided the meter case into two parts. And took up the difficult part.

I can say for sure that these parts are designed for at least 220 V and high current. But I'm interested in their speed. Also on the killed PSU for halogens I saw a tiny thermal fuse, on the case it says 130 gr. Celsius. His speed is probably high, but I don’t know what kind of pressure and current it is designed for. Today I will experience all this. I do not want to greatly complicate the device circuit.

It will turn out fast, with a switch on the hand it’s not real, and different devices can be checked. So far, the circuit has not completely taken shape in the head, but these 2 components, I think, come in handy.
